a new cosmology
For millennia civilisations have looked to the heavens as a guide to order day to day life on earth. The names of the supernatural powers above have changed over time, but there effects upon our life have not. This cosmology can be succinctly put as “as above, so below. As below, so above.” An expression I imagine most of you are familiar with. Our current civilisation’s cosmology is something quite different—this being of course The Big Bang model of the cosmos. It does little to guide us or sustain our spirit. Indeed with this cosmology we find ourselves adrift in an immense ocean without any spiritual vessel.
In this talk I am going to give you an alternative cosmology that attempts to unite this physics account with the old spiritual expression of the heavens. Central to such a view is the evidence given by our experience of meaningful coincidences, termed by Jung, synchronicities. In these moments, we find ourselves once more connected with the exterior world, and indeed with the heavens above. We experience life once more, as a cosmos, that is, as a place of order.

Robert Matthews is a Swiss trained Jungian Analyst in private practice in Adelaide. Is the current President of the CG Jung SA Society. And is also a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education teaching psychological theories in education and the application of neuroscience in education.
