About the Presentation
Transformation, in a psycho-spiritual sense, involves a total, if progressive, change in our essential nature, that is, a change at the very heart of who we are, a profound psychological and spiritual mutation.
The basic idea is that self cannot change self because “self,” being only an idea or image in our mind, is our basic problem in life, and no effort of the self can remove the self from the centre of its own endeavour. The liberating idea of self as illusion can be found in most if not all of the world’s great religions and in Theosophy. In this presentation, Ian will draw upon the wisdom of the ages (especially Buddhism and Hinduism), along with the teachings of Jiddu Krishnamurti. Related evidence from cognitive science will be addressed. The presentation will include practical exercises in learning how to dissociate from the false selves within our mind, so as to identify with the True Self within us.
About the Presenter
Dr Ian Ellis-Jones has tertiary qualifications in law, psychology, management and religion. He has worked as a lawyer, university academic, minister of religion and counsellor — lecturing and conducting courses and workshops in religion, psychology, philosophy, self-development and the performing arts. Ian is the author or co-author of several books on the law and other subjects. His special interests include the mystery religions; the inner meaning of myths; legends and fairy tales; new thought; spiritual psychology; mindfulness; and the performing arts. Ian is a national lecturer for The Theosophical Society in Australia.
