some thoughts on veganism
About the Presentation
In the Torah, Book of Genesis, we read that God created man in His own image and then said to him: "Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed that is upon all the earth, and every tree that has fruit yielding seed. You shall have them for food."
Why did we then exchange an innocent, plant-only diet — what today may be called Veganism — for a diet that, by involving the killing of animals, demoted us to the brutal world of Nature's hunters and predators? Can this dietary involution be reversed? Is today's explosion of the vegan phenomenon a sign that, in line with what Theosophy calls the Law of Cyclicity, the time has come for us to regain that primordial, proper way to feed ourselves — beings made in the image of God?
About the Presenter
Marco Bonincontro is a long-standing member of the Adelaide Theosophical Society with a keen interest in Comparative Religion. He is also a long-time vegan, having been so for forty years.
Raised in a meat-eating culture Marco later experimented with various alternative diets as he embarked on his spiritual journey and the search for a lifestyle compatible with it. He explored Vegetarianism, Fruitarianism and Rawism, eventually finding in Veganism what he believes to be one of the main steps to be taken at a collective level in order to call ourselves a truly human — and humane — race.
