want to know what it's like to be a shaman?
About the Presentation
Shamanism is a method in which ritual space is created to connect to the divine for a stated purpose: bringing rain or good health for example. This can be achieved by way of the shaman’s connection to Spirit Guides and through ritual work done together with the shaman.
In this talk, Dave will tell you how he, a very ordinary person, had a spiritual awakening and became a shaman. The experience is unusual for he did not study under a particular tradition, nor was he initiated by another shaman. The talk will cover the principal work, shamanic journeying, in which clients get answers to questions about their lives.
Rather than focus on anthropology or history, this will be a personal perspective on becoming a shaman and the usefulness of shamanic work for ordinary people.
About the Presenter
Dave Johnson had his first shamanic journey in 1995 while serving in the Peace Corps in Hungary. After ten years he began to lead shamanic journeys. Much of what he knows comes from practice: working with Spirit Guides and leading journeys. His role as a shaman focuses on journey work in particular, where an individual meets his or her power animal and receives an answer to a question the client presents. This work gives practical answers to everyday problems, and is open to anyone through participation in journeys.
